Fluid Power Systems: Hydraulics and Pneumatics

This course introduces learners to the principles and applications of fluid power systems, with a focus on hydraulics and pneumatics. Participants will learn to identify components, read and interpret fluid power circuit diagrams, and safely operate and maintain these systems. The training combines theoretical knowledge with practical application to ensure competency in real-world industrial environments.

Target Audience:

  • Maintenance Technicians

  • Mechanical Fitters

  • Engineering Apprentices

  • Production Line Operators

  • Artisans and Plant Operators

  • Technical College and TVET graduates

  • Anyone entering the field of industrial automation or manufacturing systems

Entry Requirements:

  • NQF Level 2 literacy and numeracy

  • Basic mechanical aptitude

  • Some prior technical or engineering exposure is advantageous but not mandatory

Target Competences:

Learners will be able to:

  • Understand the operating principles of hydraulic and pneumatic systems

  • Identify, install, and maintain fluid power components

  • Interpret fluid power schematics

  • Apply safe working procedures with pressurized systems

  • Troubleshoot basic faults in fluid power systems

Learner Outcomes:

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  1. Explain the principles of fluid power transmission

  2. Identify and describe the function of hydraulic and pneumatic components

  3. Assemble basic fluid power circuits according to given schematics

  4. Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance

  5. Apply fault-finding techniques to restore system functionality
